Senurie Jayasuriya

Senurie Jayasuriya is an Associate at Matti Lamb & Associates who practises primarily in family law. She acts for people going through a separation or divorce, parents working out arrangements for their children, and couples dividing property and finances after a relationship ends. She graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice in 2019 and was admitted to practice in 2021.

Senurie began her legal career in a country practice at a generalist firm, meaning a practice that handles a broad mix of matters rather than one specialty. It was there that she found her calling in family law, and she has since focused her practice on it, supporting clients through matters that are both complicated and emotionally difficult. She now works from the firm’s Hawthorn office and speaks Sinhala as well as English.

How Senurie Works with Clients

Senurie understands that a family law matter can feel overwhelming, and she works to give clients clear advice, practical options and steady support at each stage. Clients describe her as approachable, and she takes a genuine interest in the people she acts for rather than treating a file as a set of documents.

Her work within family law centres on parenting disputes, property settlements, divorce, child support and binding financial agreements. A binding financial agreement is a written agreement setting out how a couple’s assets will be divided, which can be made before, during or after a relationship. The firm’s family law service covers those matters along with consent orders, spousal maintenance, and urgent recovery and international travel applications.

Timing matters in these cases. Court proceedings for a property settlement have to start within two years of separating for de facto partners, or within 12 months of a divorce being finalised for married couples, although extensions can be obtained in some circumstances. Most matters are settled without a court hearing, either informally or through consent orders, which are the orders a court makes when both people already agree.

If you have separated, you are working out where your children will live, or you need to divide property after a relationship has ended, Senurie can talk through your options in English or Sinhala and explain what each one involves. Outside the office she keeps active, spends time with her dogs and enjoys hosting friends and family. You can email her at [email protected], call 08 8155 5322, or get in touch to arrange a time to talk.
