Emma McMullen

Emma McMullen is a Solicitor at Matti Lamb & Associates who practises primarily in conveyancing and property law. She acts for people buying and selling property, advises on building and construction contracts, and works within the firm’s credit repair and property settlement teams. She graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Laws and International Relations and was admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of South Australia in May 2026.

Emma joined the firm as a Law Clerk in February 2025 and moved into a solicitor role after her admission. Before that she spent several years working in family law, which gave her experience with matters where the legal issues and the personal circumstances are closely tied together. She works from the firm’s Hawthorn office.

How Emma Works with Clients

Emma assists clients across a broad range of property transactions, building contracts and settlements. Her focus is on giving practical advice, communicating clearly and keeping things moving. That matters in conveyancing, where settlement happens on a fixed date and every document has to be in order by then.

Colleagues describe her as approachable and detail focused, and she works to help clients get through a legal matter with a clear picture of what is happening at each stage. The teams she sits in cover:

  • Property and conveyancing: residential sales and purchases, and review of contracts and Form 1s. A Form 1 is the disclosure document a seller must give a buyer in South Australia before the sale becomes binding.
  • Building and construction contracts: advice on contracts for building work, so you understand the price, what is included and your obligations before the work begins
  • Credit repair: defaults and overdue accounts recorded on a credit report, debt negotiation, statute barred debts, and complaints to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. A default can be listed once a payment has been overdue for at least 60 days and the required notices have been sent, and it can be enough to stop a lender approving a home loan.
  • Property settlement: working out how property, savings, superannuation and debts are divided after a separation, and formalising the outcome through consent orders or a binding financial agreement. Court proceedings have to start within two years of separating for de facto partners, or within 12 months of a divorce being finalised for married couples.

Sitting across these teams is useful for clients, because a listing on a credit file and a looming settlement date are often the same problem viewed from two sides. A property settlement after separation can also involve transferring or selling the family home, which draws on her conveyancing work.

If you are buying or selling a property, signing a building contract, dividing property after a separation, or a default on your credit file is holding up your finance, Emma can explain the process and what it will involve. Outside the office she reads, watches films and is working her way through Adelaide’s cafes and coffee spots.
