Amanda Nyunt is a Solicitor at Matti Lamb & Associates who specialises in family law. She acts for people going through a separation, and for parents working out arrangements for their children. She graduated from the University of South Australia in 2024 with a double degree in Laws with Honours and Journalism and Professional Writing, and was admitted to practice in June 2025.
Amanda speaks fluent Burmese as well as English, so clients who would rather discuss a family law matter in Burmese can do so directly with their solicitor instead of through an interpreter. She works from the firm’s Hawthorn office and acts for clients across South Australia.
How Amanda Works with Clients
Amanda brings empathy to her work and a real interest in helping people through what is often one of the hardest periods of their lives. Family law matters tend to arrive at a point when someone is already under strain, and having a solicitor who listens properly makes the process easier to manage.
The firm’s family law service covers divorce applications, property settlements and consent orders, children’s matters and parenting arrangements, child support and spousal maintenance, urgent recovery and international travel applications, and binding financial agreements. A few rules catch people out more than any others:
- A divorce application can be made once a marriage has broken down irretrievably. The couple must have been separated for 12 months first, though separation does not necessarily mean living at separate addresses, and the application does not need both partners to agree to it.
- Court proceedings for a property settlement have to start within two years of separating for de facto partners, or within 12 months of a divorce being finalised for married couples. Extensions can be obtained in some circumstances.
- In children’s matters, the court’s main concern is what is in the child’s best interests. Before applying to court for parenting orders, separated parents generally need to try family dispute resolution, a form of mediation, unless an exception such as family violence or urgency applies.
Most family law matters are resolved without a court hearing, either informally or through consent orders, which are the orders a court makes when both people have already agreed on the outcome.
If you have separated, need to divide property, or need to sort out arrangements for your children, Amanda can talk you through your options in English or Burmese. Outside the office she reads, travels and likes finding new restaurants. You can email her at [email protected], call 08 8155 5322, or get in touch to arrange a time to talk.
